1st Thriller Rehearsal 2009!

It's time for all zombies to rise from the dead once again to prepare for our annual attempt to break the Guiness World's Record! This year Thrill The World has set the big event for Sat, Oct. 24th @ 5:30 pm PST.

Learn the dance or get refreshed from last year beginning Sun, Aug. 16th @ 5pm. Rehearsal place is TBA. Looking for options indoors in case the weather won't cooperate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. A place to practice outdoors isn't a problem.

The FUNK of FORTY THOUSAND YEARS!

October 2008 is the 25th Anniversary of Michael Jackson's Thriller video and we have put together a local group of over 150 people to perform The Thriller Dance on October 25th 2008 with Thrill the World 2008 who is hosting a world-wide Thriller dance event!

Local radio station Movin' 92.5 will be providing the music for the event! Thank you MOVIN'!

Here are the details regarding the Thriller Dance event in Seattle this weekend:

Saturday, October 25th - World Record Attempt in Seattle Video by WSB
10:15 am - Meet at the Pergola in Pioneer Square, 100 Yesler Way
10:30 am - Amble over to Occidental Park in Pioneer Square, Occidental Ave S and S Main Street
11:00 am - Perform the Thriller Dance for the World Record attempt!
11:15 am - Perform a second Thriller Dance just for fun!
11:30 am - Leave for West Seattle for lunch and the next performance at Easy Street
12:30 pm - Lunch in West Seattle

After the World Record attempt there are two more dance events planned for the day:

Huge milestone last night for us as we finished the final two lessons which completes the core steps for Thriller. We finished up lessons 7 & 8 and then practiced the full 5 minute and 37 second dance....twice!

It helped to have a rehearsal room that was twice the size of our former space, a new DVD (once I figured out how the DVD player worked) and great speakers.

Our next rehearsal is Wednesday, September 24th at 8:15pm at West Seattle Christian Church community room, map here. Just look for the 'Thriller Dance' sign and go through the glass doors. Our next rehearsal will focus on parts of dance we need to review so it's a great time to join as you will be able to catch up! Plus we'll go through the complete dance twice!

Is it me or did the room seem to get smaller as we were learning the classic 'stomp' routine?

Our host, Dan Jacobs from Ginomai, and I had a discussion this week about space as it's been on everyone's mind that the current room is too small. He was kind enough to give us a much larger community room right across the street from Ginomai at West Seattle Christian Church. The community room holds 50+ people, has a much bigger screen and better speakers. Here's a link to a map but it's really right across the street, just walk through the parking lot and go through the open door on the backside of the building. Look for the sign pointing the way!

Rehearsals still start at 8pm BUT the first 15 minutes will be reserved for any discussions or follow-up. We'll start rehearsing at 8:15pm and go until 9:15pm.

We had a couple of technical challenges last night but onward and upward, next Wednesday we'll get caught up on our one lesson we didn't cover.

We're about half-way through the dance and everyone is smashing! Our next rehearsal is Wednesday, September 17th at 8pm. We're also going to add two additional rehearsals, Saturday & Sunday, October 18th & 19th at Ginomai. Time TBD.

We also started thinking about our costumes and everyone received a zombie costume suggestion sheet.

OK! So our lessons for next Wednesday are:

Welcome to the Thrill the World West Seattle blog. This year we are joining in the Thrill the World team to dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller! This event will be in it's third year and we are going for a Guinness Book of World Records by breaking the record of the most people simultaneously dancing at the same time!

So where are we rehearsing? Every Wednesday beginning on Wednesday, September 3rd at Ginomai Artist Studio in the community room. The address is 4401 42nd Ave SW, it's on the corner of 42nd and Genessee.

Rehearsal time is 8pm to 9pm. We only have 7 rehearsals before the big event too, so let's make every one count!

We will be following the dance step-by-step via an online dance tutorial, anyone can do it!

Lora (cheerleader...for real), Blayne (hip hop) and Kerry (ballet) will taking turns leading the group. Please join us for this world event!
